If you are new to Once Human in August 2026, choose Manibus (Novice) unless you deliberately want a more specialized rule set. That is the developer’s current beginner recommendation. Then follow the revamped tutorial and scenario journey, place a small territory near the resources and routes you actually use, and unlock Memetics only when they solve the next crafting or survival need.
- Start with Manibus (Novice); scenarios have different maps, rules and PvE/PvP focus.
- Follow the Journey and main tasks to unlock systems in a useful order.
- Build a compact base with storage, crafting, food/water and clear expansion space.
- Unlock Memetics for current recipes; individual nodes can be reset, but planning still saves time.
- Clear settlements methodically and activate travel points.
- Treat weapons and armor as replaceable progression tools; preserve valuable blueprints and account-level unlocks.
- Learn what transfers before the next scenario instead of assuming a conventional permanent server.
Choose the scenario before choosing the server
Once Human’s official Console Launch FAQ defines a scenario as the theme attached to a server. Scenarios can change maps, rules, stories, environmental systems and PvE/PvP experiences, and their phases unlock content on different schedules.
For a first character, the developer recommends Manibus (Novice). Do not join a harder, PvP-focused or environmentally specialized scenario merely because a server is newer. Read the scenario card in the client.
As of August 26, 2026, the official server schedule says new North America, Europe and Southeast Asia Manibus servers open weekly on Saturdays, with a mixture of Visional and normal worlds. Capacity and schedules can change, so use the live selection screen and latest announcement.
Follow the tutorial and Journey
The December 2025 update introduced a revamped new-player experience. Complete it before trying to optimize around older videos; menu order and early unlocks may differ.
In the wilderness, use main tasks and Journey objectives as your progression spine. They reveal mechanics in an order that reduces wasted crafting. When a task points toward a settlement, combine objectives:
- activate the nearest teleport point;
- clear required enemies and elites carefully;
- search marked objectives and important containers;
- collect materials you already need;
- return to territory when inventory or gear condition makes the next fight inefficient.
Do not loot every low-value object if it stops forward progress. Learn which materials feed your current ammunition, healing, crafting station and gear tier.
Build a small, relocatable territory
Your first territory is infrastructure, not architecture. Start with:
- protected storage with simple labels;
- the crafting benches required by current tasks;
- food and water processing;
- a bed or recovery function where currently supported;
- power only when a facility needs it;
- open floor/wall space for the next station.
Place containers near the benches that consume their contents. Separate raw materials, components, food/medicine and equipment. A five-minute organization pass prevents repeated searches and accidental crafting from reserved stock.
The official seasonal FAQ confirms that house blueprints and furniture formulas are retained across scenario transitions, while rebuilding still requires materials. Save a clean house blueprint once the layout works.
Relocate for the next chapter, not every resource node
Move when travel time to current objectives becomes a persistent cost or the location blocks expansion. Temporary shortages are better solved by a gathering route than constant rebuilding.
Use Memetics as a recipe plan
Memetics unlock capabilities and recipes. Before spending a Cipher, ask what current task or bottleneck the node solves. Prioritize the chain that enables shelter essentials, ammunition, healing, tools and the next required crafting tier.
The official Way of Winter update notes that individual Memetic nodes can be reset rather than resetting the whole system. That makes experimentation safer, but respec convenience is not a reason to unlock disconnected recipes.
Memetic Specializations and scenario-related items have separate transfer rules. The official seasons explanation says Memetics reset based on levels when moving into a new scenario, allowing reselection for that scenario’s conditions.
Gear: blueprint logic before enhancement
Treat early crafted gear as a bridge. Replace it when a new tier becomes practical and avoid exhausting rare resources on a piece you will immediately outgrow.
Use this order after a combat failure:
- repair and check ammunition;
- verify weapon range and enemy weak points;
- improve the relevant weapon/armor blueprint or craft the appropriate tier;
- calibrate or enhance only when the item will remain useful long enough;
- change build mechanics after identifying the actual problem.
Blueprints and many account data/currencies persist directly between scenarios according to the current official FAQ. Ordinary crafted weapons, armor and materials move to Eternaland and may require Resource Inheritance Points to bring into a new scenario. That distinction is why permanent blueprint progress deserves attention.
Deviations and Securement Units
When the tutorial introduces Deviations, read the current ability and environmental preferences. Use one that solves an active combat, crafting or territory need. Provide the conditions shown in the interface rather than copying an old universal setup; scenario updates can change behavior and availability.
Do not let collecting every possible Deviation replace main progression. Capture opportunities that fit the route, then organize and evaluate them at the territory.
Prepare for scenario transitions
Once Human is not a conventional single permanent-world loop. Official guidance says:
- cosmetics, many currencies, blueprints, formulas, design layouts and some character data are retained directly;
- crafted gear, materials, medicine, Deviations and calibration blueprints go to Eternaland;
- bringing eligible stored items into a new scenario costs Resource Inheritance Points;
- Energy Links convert to Astral Sand at the stated ratio;
- scenario-bound items and Memetic Specializations do not transfer in the same way.
Always read the current Scenario Description before signing up, because individual scenarios can alter these rules.
Mistakes to avoid
Picking a scenario by server age alone. Choose rules and difficulty first; beginners are directed to Manibus (Novice).
Building an enormous first base. Functional, compact and blueprint-ready beats expensive decoration during early progression.
Unlocking Memetics without a recipe goal. Follow the immediate survival and crafting chain.
Over-investing in replaceable gear. Preserve resources for a tier or blueprint worth keeping.
Ignoring scenario transfer rules. Permanent progression and transferable inventory are different.
Using an old tutorial route. The official new-player experience changed in December 2025.
FAQ
Which Once Human scenario should beginners choose?
The official August 2026 FAQ recommends Manibus (Novice) for learning the mechanics and rules.
Do I lose everything after a scenario?
No. Many account unlocks persist, while ordinary items move to Eternaland and eligible items can be brought into a new scenario under Resource Inheritance Point rules. Read the current scenario details.
Can Memetics be reset?
Official update notes state that individual nodes can be reset. Memetics are also reselected under scenario-transition rules.
When should I move my territory?
Move when the current story/resource region makes travel consistently inefficient or the site blocks necessary expansion—not for every temporary gathering need.
