Once Human Launches on PS5 and Xbox, Then Issues a Console Fix Notice

Once Human arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 25 with cross-play, cross-progression and first-person view; Starry Studio is now fixing launch issues.

Once Human launched on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S on August 25, 2026. Starry Studio and NetEase announced the date on July 10, promising full cross-play and cross-progression at launch, a switchable first-person view and console-specific performance modes.

The release is live, but it has not been frictionless. On August 26, the development team acknowledged reports involving controls, display, audio, friends, vehicles and progression blockers. A separate fix notice says some Xbox login problems were resolved, while the studio continues investigating the remaining console issues.

What the console version adds

Players can switch between third- and first-person perspectives. NetEase says Quality mode targets 4K at 60 frames per second and Performance mode supports up to 120fps. Those are publisher-stated modes, not Clutchrig benchmark results; actual output can vary by console model, display capability and scene load.

Controller feedback has been tuned for encounters, boss-trigger resistance and loot pickups. Cross-play connects console players with the existing PC and mobile population, while cross-progression lets a linked account carry progress between supported platforms. Account linking should be completed using the official flow before starting a separate character, especially for returning players.

The console launch includes the game’s existing scenarios and PvP spin-off rather than a cut-down starter edition. NetEase marketed more than 300 hours of available content across six scenarios. That figure is a publisher estimate, not a fixed campaign length.

Known launch issues on August 26

Starry Studio’s progress notice lists several problems still under investigation. These include false “backpack full” messages that can block pickups or the beginner sequence, broken friend visibility and friend requests, mouse-and-keyboard problems, vehicles that cannot be ridden, missing audio, ineffective controller deadzone settings and characters becoming stuck after interacting with the Digby Boy.

The team also cites players being launched into the air when jumping into dialogue, black character skins and garbled PSN friend-list text on PS5. Pre-order bundle delivery was marked fixed, although delayed mail could still require a relog. Players who remain affected are directed to the in-game bug-report tool.

These are confirmed developer-listed issues. Their presence does not mean every console user encounters them, and the notice does not provide an exact repair date for each item.

What it means for players

Confirmed fact: the console edition launched August 25 with cross-play, cross-progression and first-person view; the developer published a known-issues update one day later. Clutchrig interpretation: returning players gain the most from cross-progression, but they should treat account linking as the critical first step. New console players may want to verify that the latest hotfix has installed before investing time in the tutorial.

Players sensitive to input deadzones, missing sound or progression blockers should follow the official update feed over launch-day guides, because fixes are moving quickly. The August 26 notice is a snapshot, not a permanent defect list.

For cross-platform groups, the launch removes a major access barrier: friends can join from current consoles without abandoning the wider live-service population. That benefit is separate from cross-progression. Cross-play connects players in sessions; cross-progression concerns the account and its saved state. Each should be checked independently in the linking interface.

There is no rumor here. We do not infer platform sales, player counts or the cause of the bugs from the notices.

Availability

Once Human is free to play on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android and iOS. Console access began August 25 at 11:00 PT according to the launch-day notice. Cross-play and cross-progression are available, subject to correct account linking.
