RAID: Shadow Legends Beginner Guide: Build One Team Without Wasting Resources

A durable RAID beginner roadmap: build a campaign-capable core, understand gear stats, ration skill tomes, and expand into dungeons only when the account is ready.

The most reliable early goal in RAID: Shadow Legends is to build one champion who can carry campaign progression, then surround that champion with a small team covering support, debuffs and boss utility. Do not try to develop every rare pull. Rank, gear, skill tomes, ascension materials and Silver all become bottlenecks when spread widely.

This guide focuses on official mechanics and avoids promising a specific promotional champion or temporary code.

TL;DR
  • Develop one campaign-focused damage dealer before a broad roster.
  • Judge artifacts by useful primary stats and substats, then complete sets when they help.
  • Speed controls turn order; Accuracy helps debuffs land.
  • Save rarity-specific Skill Tomes for champions with a proven long-term job.
  • Use Campaign for targeted early gear and levelling; move to Dungeons when the team can farm them efficiently.
  • Keep useful champions until you understand their kit, faction and fusion relevance.
  • Build teams by roles, not rarity alone.

Your first account objective

Campaign provides a controlled place to progress, earn XP and target specific artifact slots. The official gear guide notes that Campaign artifacts are weaker than higher Dungeon drops, but each Campaign stage targets a particular gear piece. That predictability is valuable early.

Your first developed champion should reliably clear the best practical Campaign stage with less-developed allies gaining XP. The exact champion and stage depend on your account. Do not copy a fixed recommendation if your current starter options, gear or game version differ.

Build a small functional core

Start with four jobs:

Job What it contributes Useful signals in the skill text
Campaign damage Clears waves and levels food Area attacks, short cooldowns, self-sustain
Support Keeps the team alive or improves output Healing, shields, buffs, cleansing
Debuffer/control Makes enemies easier or safer to fight Decrease DEF, decrease ATK, control effects
Boss utility Helps against high-HP targets Multi-hit, turn-meter effects where valid, damage-over-time or survival tools

One champion may fill several jobs. Expand only when a Dungeon or boss exposes a clear missing function.

Rank, level, ascend and upgrade skills—know the difference

The Tavern unlocks at account level 6. Plarium’s official support guide says it can level champions, upgrade rank, upgrade skills and ascend them.

  • Level raises base stats within the current rank.
  • Rank raises the level ceiling and requires sacrifices.
  • Ascension uses affinity potions and can improve base stats, skills or unlock new effects.
  • Skill upgrades use suitable Skill Tomes or duplicate champions; the upgraded skill is selected randomly.

That last point makes tomes especially easy to waste. Plarium explicitly warns that Skill Tomes are scarce. Do not use a higher-rarity tome simply to remove a notification. Confirm the champion’s long-term job first.

Protect anything you do not understand

Lock champions that appear unique, useful, required for a fusion, or difficult to replace. Do not feed a rare or higher-rarity champion because a tier list calls it weak. Lists age, and specialized content can make a narrow skill valuable.

Use clearly disposable units for rank-up material only after verifying current fusion and retention needs inside the game.

Artifact gearing: stats first, sets second

Every champion can equip six Artifacts—Weapon, Helmet, Shield, Gauntlets, Chestplate and Boots—and three Accessories: Ring, Amulet and Banner. Gear has a primary stat and substats. Sets activate when the required number of pieces is equipped.

A set bonus is useful only if its pieces also move the champion toward the job.

Early stat questions

  1. Does the champion need to act before allies or enemies? Check Speed.
  2. Must the champion place debuffs? Build enough Accuracy for the content.
  3. Is the champion dying before doing the job? Improve HP/DEF or sustain.
  4. Is a damage dealer critting inconsistently? Fix Critical Rate before stacking Critical Damage.
  5. Does damage scale from ATK, DEF or HP? Read the skill and base the build on that scaling.

Plarium’s current gear guide states that higher Speed fills the Turn Meter faster and that the highest Speed acts first. It also identifies Accuracy as essential for landing debuffs. These are role-defining stats, not decorative bonuses.

Upgrade artifacts in stages

Silver is a constraint. Raise promising pieces only far enough to reveal whether they remain useful, then commit more when the primary stat, substats and role align. A completed set with bad main stats can be worse than mixed pieces that deliver the needed Speed, Accuracy or survivability.

The official guide describes Lifesteal as a four-piece set that heals from damage dealt and notes its usefulness for farmers and self-sustain. It is not automatically best for every champion, and its healing does not apply to Poison damage.

A sustainable daily order

  1. Claim login and time-based rewards.
  2. Check daily quests, Advanced Quests and current events before spending Energy.
  3. Run Campaign when levelling champions or targeting early pieces.
  4. Run keeps or Dungeons when a defined champion milestone requires them.
  5. Use Arena tokens and Clan activities you can complete reliably.
  6. Review gear and Tavern actions in batches to control Silver spending.

Look for overlap. Levelling rank-up material during a relevant event is better than spending the same Energy without secondary rewards—provided the event milestone itself is realistic.

When to move from Campaign to Dungeons

Move when the Dungeon offers gear or materials you need and your team can farm a useful stage with a stable success rate. A one-time clear that takes too long or frequently fails is not yet a farm.

After a failure, identify whether the problem is wave control, boss mechanics, survivability, Accuracy or damage. Build the missing role rather than adding raw power everywhere.

Mistakes to avoid

Taking many champions to a middling rank. One properly developed campaign carry accelerates everyone who follows.

Using Epic or Legendary Skill Tomes casually. Tome rarity and random skill selection make mistakes expensive.

Equipping sets at any cost. Primary stats and substats must still serve the champion.

Feeding unfamiliar rares. Lock first; verify fusion and specialized uses later.

Farming the highest stage you can barely clear. Stable, efficient runs produce more dependable progress.

Chasing every tournament. Compare achievable rewards with the Energy, Silver and stored resources required.

FAQ

What is the best starter champion?

Starter balance and promotions can change. Choose from the options shown in your client by looking for dependable Campaign damage and a kit you can support. Avoid claims based on expired promo links.

Should beginners focus on sets or stats?

Use sets when the pieces also provide the stats the champion’s job requires. Do not accept unusable primary stats only to activate a bonus.

How do Skill Tomes work?

In the Tavern, a suitable tome upgrades a randomly selected eligible skill. You cannot choose the exact skill, so save scarce tomes for proven investments.

Where should I get early artifacts?

Campaign stages let you target specific artifact slots. Higher Dungeon stages can provide stronger gear when your team can farm them efficiently.
